August is a big deal for Bournemouth. Not only is it a leading UK holiday destination, it’s also home to the largest air festival in the whole of Europe. Bournemouth Air Festival has become an internationally recognised event since it started in 2008. This year marks the tenth Bournemouth Air Festival, which in itself, is amazing. It’s been even more amazing for us at Createful, as we’ve had the privilege of developing the brand new website!

“Chocks away!” for the Bournemouth Air Festival website

With more than one million page views during 2016, and 658,000 of these during the Air Festival week, the website has always been a vital means of communication and information portal. As such, it has been a privilege to design and build a new site for this unique event.

Bournemouth Tourism approached Createful with the task of transforming the old festival website, into a platform that would communicate the excitement and atmosphere of the vibrant event. After all, it’s more than just an air show. Bournemouth Air Festival invites visitors to experience incredible displays in the air, on the land, and in the sea! Attendees can also enjoy night entertainment, family activities and of course, various tasty food experiences along the seafront. With this in mind, the Createful team dedicated their time to creating a solution that would provide festival visitors with all the necessary information for an action-packed and stress-free day out.

Page load times, clear navigation and a vibrant new look were key priorities during this project. A great number of visitors access the site during the main weekend of the festival, and so a responsive design with an intuitive navigation structure was always one of our driving concerns. With a slick new interface, simplified navigation structure and attractive layout, we can’t wait for even more people to get a taste of all the exciting events and activities on offer this year.

A boarding pass to success

In July, Createful were announced as finalists in two categories for this year’s Wirehive 100 awards, and we couldn’t be more proud! The two categories are Best Agency Team and Best User Experience – Bournemouth Air Festival. I’ll let you discover the user experience side of things when you visit the website yourselves – but in terms of Best Agency Team, I have a little bit to say.

An enormous amount of teamwork, creativity and skill go into producing the best possible solution for clients. I’m sure the Createful team would agree it’s our teamwork, passion and dedication that enable us to deliver the Createful standard. For this project in particular, the team remained passionate about producing the perfect solution for the end user. It feels fantastic that this teamwork and passion has been recognised by the wider creative community. Every single person at Createful has had some input into creating this site, making it even more special that we’ve been chosen as finalists.

App and away!

As if all this excitement wasn’t enough, we’re really excited to be developing the brand new Bournemouth Air Festival app, which will be available on iOS and Android very soon. The app will accompany the festival programme, and provide visitors with the live schedule, a map of the festival area and public transport information. Notifications have also been added, to alert visitors to any changes to the schedule. Upon purchasing the official Bournemouth Air Festival programme, customers will be given a unique code, which, when entered, will unlock the live schedule and map. Those who have not purchased a programme will be able to view public transport information.

The app is nearly ready to go, so watch this space for a full announcement when it’s available to download!
