Tuesday October 7th was BIMA’s ‘Digital Day’ Bournemouth, and the Createful team were there in force to help inspire school children and young people under 19!
Organised for the young people of Dorset by the digital community, this one-day conference is aimed at inspiring the next generation of digital entrepreneurs. Anyone under 19 is invited and can attend via their school, college or independently. We’ve space for 500 people.
The day will consist of acclaimed speakers from across the digital industry and academia, both local and beyond. We’ve also invited universities, colleges and agencies to exhibit – so come and meet them face to face. The conference will be informative, exciting and ideal for anyone who has an interest in pursuing a career in the digital and creative industries. We will cover digital roles, degree courses, apprenticeships, agency life and why it’s a great space to be in.
A great space indeed! We’re so privileged to be a part of the creative digital scene in Bournemouth, and we decided to showcase some of the cool toys, gadgets, hardware and software that we
play with make proper use of on some of our creative projects.
A really big crowd pleaser was the Leap Motion controller – a truly futuristic interface reminiscent of Tom Cruise’s computer interface in the Minority Report movie.
We also took along the Estimote Beacons, with which we’re currently planning a really cool geo-location app. The thing that really caught their imagination however, was our 3Doodler printing pen, which had people queueing up to have a scribble!
The 3Doodler is a great little tool for quick prototyping and fun sketching, and it certainly brought out the ‘Createful’ side in many of the young people there, who came up with badges, glasses, phone covers and more. We even got a slot on BBC’s South Today evening news programme!
There were some inspiring talks from creative thinkers and leaders from the local scene, including the first indoor flight of a ‘proper’ drone I’ve ever seen, and some suitably edgy presentation slides from Dave Burton!
We had a great day, and hope all the attendees were given an accurate insight into the creativity and opportunity that exists in the area. As part of our ongoing commitment to the training and education of young people and job seekers, we’ve already had 13 work experience, placement students and interns with us in 2014, and will continue to offer placements in the areas of creative digital design and development. For more information about our placement positions, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and tell us a bit about yourself.
