The Brief

This year, the Bournemouth Air Festival celebrates 10 fabulous festivals, entertaining huge numbers of visitors from all over the world through displays in the air, on the land and sea. With more than one million page views during 2016, and 658,000 of these during the Air Festival week, the website has always been a vital means of communication and information portal. As such, it has been a privilege to design and build a new site for this unique event.

Our Solution

Page load times, clear navigation and a vibrant new look have been key priorities during this project. We've worked hard to minimise unnecessary code, scripts and resources on the new site, to reduce the time it takes pages to load. A great number of visitors access the site during the main weekend of the festival, and so a responsive design with an intuitive navigation structure has always been one of our driving concerns.

With load-balanced server architecture, asyncronous script loading and highly optimised image assets, we have the utmost confidence in the "invisible" side of the new site. Plus with a slick new interface, simplified navigation structure and attractive layout, we can't wait for even more people to get a taste of all the exciting events and activities on offer this year. We were also thrilled to win the Best User Experience category at this year's Wirehive 100 awards for our work on the site. It was a huge privilege to have our work recognised among such talented competition, and the judges had this to say: "A great example of designing for a well-understood audience with clarity and simplicity in task completion and well-pitched design treatment".
