So 2012 is upon us, and we hope you all had a brilliant festive period and are feeling fresh for the year ahead. It’s an exciting time for the digital world so we at Createful thought we’d give you a run down of some of the things we’re looking forward to the most in 2012…

Performance tracking

Obviously one of the first things that comes to mind when thinking of 2012 is the London Olympics. Although the games have been running for over 2,000 years, modern technology has helped improved athletes’ performances dramatically. One tech advanced that is already in place in football is the use of Adidas’ latest creation, the adizero f50 Powered by miCoach boot. Dubbed ‘the boot with a brain’, it monitors players performance data including speed, number of sprints, distance and time. This data is recorded by inserting the miCoach chip inside the boot and can wirelessly transmit data to an iOS device, where performance can be reviewed. Lionel Messi, along with several English Premier League players are already pushing the technology, so  there are no reasons why this technology could not be seen at the London 2012 games.

Super Hi-Vision

As you might know, 1080p gives you a really good quality display. However Super Hi-Vision brings you 16x more detail than the 1080p display. Although the high resolution display wont be available in homes for several years, BBC has confirmed that it will be available for public screenings during this years 2012 London Olympics. These public screen dates will be available in three countries, Japan, US and of course the UK. If you are one of the unlucky ones that missed out on Olympic tickets, then this surely is the next best thing.

Apple products

Apple never fails to excite when it comes to product releases, and this year promises to be no different. With the rumoured release of the iPad 3 in a few months time, potentially boasting a 2048×1536 retina display, along with possibly a smaller, 7 inch model, we’re very excited at the prospect. Although 2 extra screen resolutions would be a pain for developers, it’s still exciting times for the tablet industry.

Two other Apple products we’re eager to check out are the iPhone 5 (rumoured to release Q3 2012) and the proposed Apple Television set. Of course, there were heavy rumours that the iPhone 5 would have hit the shelves in 2011, with an all new design and NFC capabilities. Alas, the iPhone 5 was not released, with the 4S and introduction of Siri being the main focus of the Apple event in October 2011. However, with 2012 seeming to be a year in which NFC takes a leap forward, could we finally see it in the iPhone 5?

The proposed Apple Television set, potentially incorporating Siri voice controls and Kinect-like gesturing, also seems to be on the horizon. Rumours are that it will (of course) be full HD, along with all the features that currently feature in the existing Apple TV set-top box devices. If the price was right, would you be prepared to buy one?

Next Level Touch Screen

2012 might be the year where touch screens take a huge leap in technological advances, as Senseg has created a technology that allows users to feel the textures onscreen. Senseg’s patented solution passes ultra-low electrical currents into insulated electrodes that create a small attractive force to the skin of the finger. By altering the attractive force it can then be manipulated into different types of textures and surfaces; for example grass or sharp stones. This could take gaming to whole new level!

Of course, these are just a few of the great products that 2012 has in store. We haven’t even mentioned new gaming consoles such as the Wii U and PS Vita, the ultrabook revolution, or glasses-less 3D televisions. We’d love to hear your thoughts on what will be a big hit in 2012, so do get in touch!
